The Jewish Heritage Museum is pleased to announce that it will host a curated exhibit of actively working local Jewish artists in two groups. The first group, on display from July through September 26th, 2025, will feature the work of six artists, two of whom are ceramicists. Entitled, Contemporary Visions of New Jersey Jewish Artists, the exhibits are being curated by David Levy, Arlene Smelson, with consultation from Randye Krupnick.

In reflecting on the vision for these exhibits, Levy said, “We were looking for the best art and talent that would demonstrate the diversity of excellence that exists in the Jewish arts community.”  He feels he has achieved that goal with this first cadre of artists, emphasizing that they are all “unbelievably excellent artists.”  The Group One artists include: Toby Bergman, acrylic; Dan Epstein, photography; Kenneth Weiner, graphite, silverpoint, and gold point; Abby Levine, hand painted wood assemblages, and reconstructions; and ceramicists Alison Bowie; and Mil Wexler.

Curator David Levy received an M.A. in Art History from Rutgers University with the intention of earning a Ph.D in Italian Renaissance Art and is currently serving as the President of the Board of the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, NJ. David continues to exhibit on a regular basis, and has received numerous awards for his photography, paintings, and Optical Art. Additionally, he is a sought-after juror and lecturer. Arlene Smelson has more than 40 years of experience teaching art at all grade levels, and she gives workshops throughout the state, providing professional development for teachers and administrators. An award-winning artist, her paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the area, and she has developed a unique style in all media.
